FAQ
Questions that have been asked so many times, that I just had to make and FAQ Page:
GENERAL LAWLOLAWL QUESTIONS
Q: What did you make all of these cartoons with?
A: All toons, games, and even the majority of drawings found here are made with Adobe Flash Professional. This program is not free, but can be purchased at Adobe.
Q: Can I post these videos on my MySpace for others to see?
A: Yes, you can, as long as you A) credit Lawlolawl Studios (give a link to the site, etc.) and B) do not use the content to earn money/profit of any kind. Posting to sites like Newgrounds, however, is not allowed. By posting on sites such as these, you ensure that the work is your own. In this way, even if you show that the content is indeed made by Lawlolawl, this is copyright violation.
Q: Can I use your art style for my own website?
A: My style of art is copyrighted under E19 Industries, LLC. However, if you draw a similar art style on your site, this is okay, as long as viewers are aware that your content is not sponsored, endorsed or created by Lawlolawl Studios in any way. In other words, it has to be different than the style found here. Copying specific phrases such as “Lord Of the Bling” is strictly prohibited.
Q: Who do these flash videos belong to?
A: All content found on this site belongs to Lawlolawl Studios, is created by Peter Polack, and is copyrighted by E19 Industries LLC. Content that does not belong to Lawlolawl includes images in the Fan Art section (they belong to their respective authors), and some audio found in Lawlolawl flash games and toons (credit is given to the authors of the audio, and I do not gain a profit of any kind from my works with other individuals’ audio in them).
Q: AddictingGames uses your style on their site, how is this possible?
A: I have signed an exclusive contract with AddictingGames, allowing them to use some of my work. No, a contract of this kind is not available to the general public.
Q: How do I make emoticons in my comments on Lawlolawl?
A: A list of Lawlolawl emoticons and their shortcuts can be found here.
Q: How come when I’m the first to comment on a video, I don’t show up as the first?
A: This is most likely because you are a new user that has yet to post on the site, or the WordPress system is holding you comment for review for some other reason. If you are a new user, your comments are automatically unapproved, and must be accepted by myself. However, if you are a user that has posted on Lawlolawl before, your comments are automatically approved.
Q: How come when I comment on a post, my comment doesn’t show up?
A: Please read above answer.
Q: What kind of comments are appropriate here at Lawlolawl?
A: As long as the comment refers to the page it is on in some way, then the comment is okay. Comments with excessive use of emoticons or capitalization may be taken down.
Q: Is LOLspeak okay?
A: In moderation. Try to avoid using LOLspeak at all times, and in a way that other users don’t understand what you’re saying. If your comment has too much LOLspeak, or you have a reputation of overusing this language, your comments can be removed.
Q: How come my username has the word [condensed] after it?
A: In order to keep Lawlolawl looking clean and polished, long usernames must be condensed. If you name is too long, it can take up too much space, or causes the text to go out of certain boxes, causing problems. To prevent this, your name can be shortened at any time, without notification. [condensed] will then appear after your name.
Q: What about [censored]? Is this the same thing?
A: A username that has been replaced with [censored] indicates that it was inappropriate for some reason. Usernames can be censored without notification.
Q: How does the +/- system work? How come when I vote against a post, nothing happens?
A: Initially, pressing + on a post would add a point to it, and pressing – would take off a point. This didn’t work, because if three people plussed the post, and one person minussed it, then the post would have two points out of four, rather than the more appropriate three points out of four. To fix this, without refreshing the posts current scores, I changed the system so that pressing – does not take off a point, but simply counts as a negative vote.
Q: How do I submit my ideas to you?
A: If you have any ideas, you can always e-mail them to me at element19@lawlolawl.com. However, because I have my own agenda, and I’m frequently working with a ton of tasks at once, it’s unlikely that your idea will actually be passed through. If you want to ensure that your idea goes up, suggest a Poll that I can put up on Lawlolawl. That way, the entire community can vote on what they want.
Q: What do I do if my question isn’t answered by this FAQ?
A: Send an e-mail to me at element19@lawlolawl.com. If your question is asked enough, I might put it here.
PERSONAL QUESTIONS
Q: How long does it take you to make a flash cartoon?
A: Of course, it always depends on how much work I have, whether it’s school work, Lawlolawl work, etc. If I’m.. er.. properly motivated, then a cartoon like Educated Fish can be finished in one day, and Lawls can take up to a week. The biggest problem is the other work that I have to get out of the way. A game like Autobox takes two months for me to make, although if I had nothing else going on in my life, it could take a week or three.
Q: You’ve made reference to games like Assassin’s Creed and Halo, do you play video games?
A: Why, yes, indeed I do. I own an Xbox, a Gamecube, a PS3, an Xbox 360, a somehow broken PSP, a Gameboy Color, Advance and SP, as well as a few games for my PC. Out of all of these, the sole game that I play the most is Halo 3 (I can’t give away my gamertag* because my friends list is straight up full… I’ll figure something out). To some, it’s the only game I play. As for my PS3, I barely touch it..
*It doesn’t have “lawlolawl” in it, by the way.. in case you beat a player that’s not me.
Q: How old are you exactly?
A: Now, I’m sixteen. It seems that, for every year I grow older, owning Lawlolawl seems less impressive, haha. So, my goal is to make some really awesome stuff as early as I can, and to get in some more magazines!
Q: So, what do you do besides make Lawlolawl stuff?
A: Unfortunately for me, schoolwork takes up most up my life. I’m in the IB program, and for those who don’t know, it essentially means instant death. I’m also taking an SAT course that comes with hours and hours of homework every week, even during the summer. Other than that, I’ll do anything besides eat shrimp.
Q: You don’t like shrimp?
A: Of course not. They’re worms with legs.
Q: How did you start with Flash? Where did you hear about it?
A: Back in the day, I saw some stick figure animtaion, probably Xiao Xiao. At this point, I was desperately looking around for the software to create such awesome animations. I finally found it by right-clicking on a flash cartoon (surprising that I couldn’t find it on Google then, huh?). Basically, I made myself a part of the Newgrounds community, and then found DeviantArt (where people actually knew what they were talking about, and appreciated constructive critisism). DA is where I gained my first group of online friends, who gradually grew into my first fanbase. I still remember all of their names.. or.. screenames.
Q: You’re just a kid, you know nothing about science! How then, did you set up this website?
A: The fact that my uncle owned a website hosting company pretty much gave me a straight shot to hostage. I knew little about making websites at the time, so the inital site probably never got up onto the internet. I ended up hiring somebody to make the first Lawlolawl.
Q: Did you design this Lawlolawl website yourself?
A: This one, no. It’s a fusion of a template that I found and a little bit of external help that I found. This is probably about the 7th Lawlolawl website.. well.. the first one was entirely Lawl themed, the next one was completely white, and had very simple pages, the third one was a flash web of a city that you could explore, the fifth was a single flash that was made up of a ton of archives, the sixth was never uploaded.. so yeah, this is the 7th. I’ve designed every Lawlolawl site except for the second and this one.
Q: What do you enjoy most about making flash? And don’t get inspirational.
A: Well, first of all, it’s just cool to make stuff. With Flash you can create pretty much anything you want on the computer. It’s also always cool to point at something and say “Dude, look, I made that!” It’s also so awesome to meet somebody, and then to find out that they’ve heard of your website/games (it usually ends up being I Don’t Even Know, haha). My girlfriend even knew about my games before she knew me.
